i was hoping to get some input on our current contract to employee based new deal we've got from comcast. Ive been playing the cable game for 20 years now and always found the money easy, never really had to work hard to bring home 1200, and the bs you put up with wasn't much of a hassle. day after Xmas i am officially an employee, yet still masquerading as a contractor. Ive been in the company of smoke and mirrors before, and the w2, group health after 90, overtime polish math, and 20% pay cut looks to me like we've finally hit bottom. ( don't employees get annual pay raises after certain length of service? we wont) i don't see any benefit to continue working the long hours, weekends,no holidays, 6-7 day work week, after 5 appointments , wear and tear on my truck, and no Xmas party, for roughly the same money i could make as an in house tech. we still pay our own fuel, good today, but not come June, we still pay our own phone, and now we have to document every step we make, and make another dozen phone calls with hold times so they know what my status is.
what i want to hear you guys sound off on is what can be expected by going over to dish as a contractor? pros and cons, whats the biggest headache you face each day, what scams to avoid, and what kind of money is really being made on an average week?
i already know i should have left the field altogether years ago, so that doesn't have to be mentioned, but this was the easiest money a guy could make if you knew the rules, were good at it, and could adapt to all the changes. this time, i believe they don't care about experience and will just hire 2 new guys to replace me, today, and if they're new to cable, they'll think this is a good gig, hell your guaranteed minimum wage, right?
