Ill tell you what happened but your not going to like it.
What should have taken place in the firs instance when you realized the job needed a reinstall is this. Call the boss, confirm w/ him or her the problem, tell him your not putting your hands on the job until he gaurenties full payment to you for the install.
document everything and make sure you get paid.
Now you are responsible for that job however you can not get backcharged for a trouble call if you are not given a chance to correct a problem. It sounds like the second part could have been solved over the phone. Now, go out and spend 50 bucks on business cards and make sure the customer calls you and not dish or direct. finally, when the instance accurs that you get a customer who calls you out to fix something that he caused, take out the invoice book and charge him for the fix. Run your business like a business and you will make money.
