I just joined on as a cable installer and am taking classes for installing cable. I was shadowing a technician and during a trouble call we noticed a customer had a 2 way splitter outside at the ground block, and another 2 way inside. This customer has cable internet and cable tv. upon going to the technician who did the install why he split the cable 2 ways he said he was told it was 'ok' to use as many splitters as possible as long as you get the right signal upon closing the order. when myself and the other technician tested the signal we were 19db lower than what it should be. So my question is, who is right? the installer who says as long as the signal is good, it doesn't matter how many splitters you need.. or the technician who came with me and said for internet its better to have the internet cable dedicated?
Proper use of splitters
