What would cause a carrier to show up hot

I had a situation few days ago where one particular digital carrier was about 8db hotter that any of the adjacent channels. It was not a headend problem. It just showed up at the input of one particular line extender. The only thing I changed was when I went to the next amp up (a trunk) 4 of the 6 screws for the lid were completely loosened. All I did was open up the amp to check it and retightened everything and the problem has since went away. Not sure If what I did may have impacted it as I did not go back to check. I just talked to the customer today and he said that his cable was working fine now.(pirate)
