Re: contractor or employee: where's the line?

When you come in to the office in the morning, you either accept a route or you dont... that is your RIGHT as a contractor. You dont have to come in, you don't have to work... I cant force you or set your hours of work. BUT... if you accept a route, you must also accept the parameters of that route, which include the time frames. I am an area manager and I ask all my guys to help one another and pick up work. I cant make you, but when you need help, I will get someone out to help you. Scratching back theory... When I have a guy cross town, drive 20 miles to help or pick up a job, I give my guys add pay to comp for the extra gas as a courtesy. not required, but if you do me a favor, i try to help you too. Its a give and take world in this biz, but the bottom line is that I cant make you do anything as a contractor, but by accepting the route, you do accept the parameters and you can be held responsible for time frames etc....
