Its not the alcohol that eats it. Some people are using acetone to clean the fibers during the prepping and splicing so it gets a better burn and repels dirt better. But in time it eats the cladding and leaves the fiber brittle and spotted cladding. Plus leaving excess cleaner on them makes trouble later on.
