Finding noise/ingress with SDA-500

I would like some detailed info on the proper use of finding noise on a system with the SDA-5000 (without Pathtrack) while sweeping. Should the node be swept first and look for the noise or is it best to do it as you are sweeping? What are some of the menus on the spectrum analyzer that I should use and what settings? Are there any "must settings or secrets" that can be used? What about the "Noise Enable "softkey on the return screen? Can this be of any help?. Is there another product besides the analyzer on the SDA-5000 that is better? It will have to be something that needs a unit in the headend.
Thanks in advanced, any info will be greatly appreciated.
ThanksJim
