Industry change catv to fiber

I have been a catv tech for five years and I feel it's time for a change. I hear fiber is a good industry to contract in. I know there is a big initial investment in trade tools. That being said, how can I get into the industry? Should I try to get an entry level position job or take a course I've seen being offered? Any information or advice is welcome.
