Good Advice from everyone, you can get certified with SCTE, look into smart buildings Ethernet wiring, check out DAS fiber systems, fiber in pipelines, fiber in wind-solar farms, contact the Light Brigade for fiber splicing training. Equipment is very high as they said however lots of used stuff around. Get with an experienced fiber splicer, work for less for a job or two..by then your be ready to go on your own way. If your going to jump in the pond...go fiber all the way. All coax is doing is making there nodes smaller, eventually they will have to go fiber all the way to the home. Look into municipalilites, I've build fiber rings for them, they were hiring in house w/good benefits. Electric and Phone are both hiring.
I wish you luck..watch out for some of these primes...if it sounds to good to be true...you know the rest of the story.
