Most managers, if you can call them managers, especially in smaller systems, are just techs that kissed the right butt, managers, in general, are just scapegoats, used to pass blame when something goes wrong, and rarely do any of them have any management experience prior to being a manager. Thats the case in any industry, not just the satellite/cable. I can't tell you how many techs have sent me their resume, and "Lead Tech" and "Field Service Manager", "Training Manager", "QC Manager", " Area Manager" are listed as their last position. The field is littered with managers that were fired or over worked, and when something went wrong, they took the blame to satisfy the MSO/Prime/HSP. I have seen many many excellent techs ruined by 'promotions'.
