Drake makes a Quam modulator, 6000L-TCE, runs about $995 from the NCTC. This modulator will accept 6 SD ASI inputs using 4410/4402x or 9850 receiver and stacks them on a single 6 mhz analog channel;example would be using channel 26 your six stations would appear on channels 26.1/26.2/26.3/26.4/26.5/26.6 and can be received by any digital TV. if you have existing digital such as quick takes plus and DCTs in your system these channels can be mapped into your line up and viewed using the DCT. these channels are not encoded - Clear Guam. The same quam modulator will process and stack 2 or 3 HD stations onto 1 6MHz analog station.
We have used this practice to add 12 to 24 channels to our 330MHz systems. The great thing is that you can put these channels on your upper roll off channels where an analog channel would be snowy and still provide a great picture quality because the digital signal runs 8 to 10 db lower than analog. The negative side of this practice is that your customer has to have a digital TV to view or you have to map the channels to your existing hits channel map and provide a DCT.
