Ftth isn't bad but it does have it's draw backs. The big one is the cost to install which is why they have cust. lock into a contract. Another is (what I have seen) is in some areas fibers are rented from companies like AT&T so when you make an outgoing phone call (even if it's local) you have to dial your area code first. Those are a few.
 Now with some of the new technologies coming out cable companies will be able to use exsisting coax to what is called fttx and be very competitive with ftth while keeping costs down. Yes the system will need to be tight, and the demand for good techs will go up, but that goes with the territory.
