Re: Catv Is History

Not looking into it, already have an RFoG (Radio Frequency over Glass) deployed with customers and expanding at this very moment, and we are not the first. It is a little more expensive to build, but cheaper in the long run. There is no sweep or replacement of parts from corrosion, the hub is the only active, everything else is passive optical until you get to the house where there is a micro node that is power from the home. The only maint. is an occasional stop at the hub to verify levels and the power supplies, we use two supplies in redundant ring running six hubs. You train a couple of installers to use the self contained fusion splicing kits that cost less than $4K each and let them handle the fiber end of the installs and the rest is the same as an HFC install. It has been a fairly painless activation, can't wait to rebuild the HFC part of the plant into RFoG.
