This is what the future is. In cable we are always scaling down how many subs are on a node and trying to do n+1 or just node design, because of maint. costs and the price of electricity. And bandwisth. I think the major problem is the bigger an organization is the slower it is to make a turn. Also the guys holding the purse strings are screaming that they just bought all these new nodes from SA (Cisco) and they haven't made their ROI on that stuff yet. What they fail to see is in the long term the fiber is a win win situation.
