Don't really know why SA has that statement. The procedure you quoted is exactly the way I was taught. Maybe, in an ideal world, SA believes that the input levels will be within certain perameters and the Main and AUX Output pads won't need to be changed. I worked with a fellow who had worked for SA in Atlanta, and he confirmed that the way we were setting up the actives was the way to do it (no matter what SA's documentation stated).
I did work on a system in Kansas where the engineer would not allow us to change the Interstage or any output pads. All adjustments were to be done on the input. This, after I asked him what level he wanted us to hit the first hybrid. He just stared at me, then finally said "it doesn't matter, the Interstage and Output pads are set at the factory. Do not change them." "OK," I said, "I'm leaving when this project is over so I don't care what your noise levels are going to be."
