I believe the main and aux forward "factory-set" pads were determined
to produce identical main and aux output levels for each amplifier before shipping and therefore they're purely for level purposes.
I can't find any SA literature that provides a reason for... e.g.: one amplifier with a 2.25dB aux pad and a 1.75 dB main pad, and the next one with a 2.00 dB aux and a 2.25 dB main, or a 1.25dB and a 1.75 dB.
What and why are the reasons SA installed "factory-set" pads and why the SA manuals state "pads not to be changed"?
If they're changed does it void the warranty?
If they're changed does it add noise?
If they're changed does it add distortion?
Or, are they OK to change without disturbances to the end-product?
