To me the best way is jump in, fail, learn what you need and study that. Then get back into the field know what you needed. I guess thats the way I did it. Started with no experience an alunimum latter doing dish installs. 2 months later moved on to something else and really learned what I needed and refused to hop back in the field till I was really SBCA certified. Then got trained at Ironwood (which is no more now directv corp). But I refused to go back till I got that SBCA. To me it is a waste of a cert, but it does teach you some basic stuff.
On the Job training is the best to see where you stand and you know how of everything.
