Ok Digitalphonemike, Now I have to disagree with you on some of things that you are saying. I don't have to be a genius to know that certain stipulations have to be put in place to keep as you put it the workerbee from taking advantage of the employer. You talk as though this doesn't happen. It does. I have seen it a lot. You are also talking about things that happened a long time ago. And when I say a long time ago I am thinking more than three years back. If not longer than that. You talk about chargebacks for lost equipment as if that isn't suppose to happen. Think about it for a second. You own a business and your employees are stealing from you and selling your equipment for an outside profit. Are you supposed to just take it up the butt b/c you don't believe you should charge your employee for keeping up with the equipment you gave them? And I don't understand the way you separate the in house guys from us contractors in that respect. I have lots of friends who are in house and they have some very similar gripes about chargebacks. They are chargedback for lost equipment too and not only do they have to pay for it, they can lose their jobs. At least I can say that my job is only threatened by poor performance. I dont know that I agree that making contractors in house will change much of your concerns. Although you have some valid points, and some things I would like to see changed but every job has pros and cons. Things have changed. The nature of this business there are certain things that you have to accept. You would be crazy to think that you would come into a business like this or even a restaurant business and think that you will have all of your weekends off. That is the nature of the business. Do restaurants shut down on saturdays to give their employees the day off? Let me see you run a business and be closed on weekends and see how profitable you will be. The driving force of your business is the customers so yes they are very important and it is ideal to have your hours to cater to their needs. I am sure people have had trouble taking off on weekends or holidays in the past but you can't lump them all together. I always give at least a two week notice if not more and I have been successful. As for the holidays, most people are off on the holidays b/c they are only running VIP/priority jobs and those that are working volunteer to work.
I am just curious as to why you are so confident that what you are doing is the resolution and why you think it won't cause more problems. I am trying to see it here man but I think you need to rethink some of the things you think will change. Are you restructuring the satellite/cable industry? I would find that a bit ridiculous to think that making contractors inhouse would affect most of the big ticket items you mentioned that got my interest...
