You are correct for the other reason,
Assume Directv (for example) wants to pay for a competent installation and offers adequate funds.
The Home Service Provider (HSP) takes half as corporate profit & overhead.
The installation fees come out of the other half.
The HSP subcontractor takes another profit and pays installers around $50.00 for a first receiver (or less) and around $10.00 for each additional receiver.
So if you add the materials the installer is asked to pat...steel pole, SC single & double Cable, compression fittings & other approved materials you get close to half of that installation fee before you cost out vehicle fuel, gas & insurance.
There is only so much meat on the bone. And if you are not paid you only sue the HSP sub...not anyone else. Not the HSP and not DirecTV and not the installation customer. (varies by state).
Why do it?
