The installers nor a collective of the same will never dictate what most primes and all of the MSO's/cable companies will pay. Charge backs from trouble calls is a form of revenue for all MSO's/cable companies. Why do you think it is in most places the contractors do the installs and the in house working directly for the cable company only do TC's ? The majority of installers working out there today are unable to diagnose outside plant issues, or for that matter tap to sub issues and the MSO's know that. Training in this industry for the most part is performed doing a ride along with the person who has been installing for a few months and he ends up passing along his bad habits or lack of knowledge to the so called trainee.
Most primes, not all but most prefer NOT to hire a majority of seasoned knowledgeable installers because they know what they should be getting paid and will not put up with the BS that gets run in this industry.
My advice, get off the soapbx and get back to work because this topic has been covered ad-nauseum for years and it has only gotten worse and will never get better.
