 LAN is a local area network system that uses a demand priority access method. WAN is a communications network serving geographically separate areas, which enables data terminals in one city to access data resources in another city . There is also WWAN and WLAN which are wireless. Ethernet is a packet based transmission protocol that is primarily used in LAN.   A good tool to use in your studies is  Google--- cable T.V. dictionary.    Good to see someone on here that wants to learn.
