It's all about liability. Inhouse, contractor driving a company van, or sub-contractor doing the work. In each case, the company's logo and name is involved. So, if a sub-contractor driving his own vehicle plows into another vehicle "...because he likes to get there in a hurry.", the damaged party's lawyer is going to list EVERYONE involved.
DirecTV, the Prime, the sub-contractor, and all three insurance companies covering each of the three will get hauled into court on a civil damages claim. If a death was involved, then the cost gets expensive for everyone.
So .. MSO's and the satallite companies are protecting themselves by not allowing work to be performed by techs with bad driving habits and questionable ethics backgrounds.
Make them all inhouse techs?? I say, "Yes" ....if the point is to limit liability costs.
In the above scene... The lawyers and court are going to nail the sub-contractor's insurance company in the end, but DirecTV still had to pay thier own lawyers for defending the company. This is a business cost that would not have been an issue if the worker had been properly vetted out in the first place.
