Re: Linemen For the OP

Your reply is classic example of the problem.

#1. What "gravy train" are you talking about. Since when is a 30+yr career with no pension, no bennies, retiree health plan, etc...... considered "gravy"?? Maybe in 3rd world countries this could be considered "gravy".   But CATV has the wrost career track of all the US utilitys.  I'd hardly call this "gravy".

#2. In spirit of your gravy train analogy, consider this.  Trains have multiple cars. The front car is the engine.  It's the most important part of the train. But as important as a train engine is, it's useless if there's no other cars for the engine to pull. Linemen are the engine. But installers, CSR's, and the rest are still key. Say a line crew comes in and does a CATV build in a city. If the installers, and CSRs dont successfully do their jobs, the service will not be be desired in other cities, due to lack of subs.  Even if other cities do desire the service, if the installers and CSRs fail at their job at the first city, the company will have no revenue to invest in new builds.  Without installers and CSRs, your first build, would have been your last.

Moral of the story: Everyone's role in is vital to the success of the industry. We all need each other.
