i dont see mainline construction either underground or aerial going away because the cell towers are fed with fiber for the most part. BUT , once the power companies work the bugs out of the ethernet over power idea, which is being used widely in europe and is on an R&D basis in alot of larger U.S. cities , i agree there isn't huge amount to worry about.  as the industries change so must we as workers - especially as independent contractors.
