That's correct. Comes to about $10-bucks for every man/woman/child in the USA.
But if I'm an auto worker or one of those down the food chain.... I got my $10-bucks, and then some, back in the fact that I still have a job making an hourly wage.
Granted, not everyone will feel the positive cash impact from the program, but the flip side of the coin is: I don't have to pay more $10-bucks into a welfare system to support a now unemployed worker if the program didn't exist at all.
Don't get me wrong, I don't fully support the cash-for-clunkers program. Back in late 2008, and even now ... I'm a big proponent of "Let the system crash".
Let the markets crash .... Let the free market system do it's job and work. Darwin of business.
