I agree any organization is only as strong as it's members. Which is why for anything to be viable it needs to have good solid goals that build bridges on common ground.
Let's take another example. Comcast is forcing contractors to convert their workforces to w-2. How about some fair contracting law to prevent workforce utilization discrimination. As I have already said corporate America figured it out years ago. If the rules don't work for ya, get the rules (aka laws) changed to something that does work.
There is a forum now dedicated to this topic so instead of a wild post there can be a building of thoughts ideas and like minded people can come together.
