A union, collaboration or an association will not work. This industry is wrought with low balling. I have seen contractors low ball bids just to get their foot in the door. What they are hoping for is to secure more work (maintenance contract or other).
As it stands now, there are way too many contractors for the work that is available. Until that changes, expect a lower quality of working life (less pay, longer hours, and absolutely no respect).
I have been in this business for over 18 years and have seen the prices for work performed steadily decline. Why do you think that is? THERE ARE TOO MANY WORKERS AND NOT ENOUGH WORK. MSO's are taking advantage of this.
