Ran in to an interesting problem the other day... running on a repeat tbl call for modem outage in downtown DC. Customers claim that their modem speeds slow down and eventually knocks the modem off line throughout the day. Packet loss tests show anywhere between 2% to 85% while online at any given time. I have been at two different locations in this building, at the modem i'm seeing +5.1 - +5.8 on the downstream carrier, and a low upstream transmit of 34 - 36. All the basics have been covered (i.e. new fittings, good MER, no ingress, home run from modem to tap, verified tap condition etc. etc.), even the mso doesn't even know what the hell is going on. The only thing that the MSO had mentioned was that whenever they poll the modem it reads "limited channel capacity". Any ideas?? RCN system.
