Re: CATV 20 years ago

I didn't work it 20 years ago but I have friends tell the horror stories about installing it.  No toners(9v battery to the toungue) and had to share meters with the lead tech.  Wall fishing was free and the money was crap.  Back then most jobs were new installs(similar as in today with the new levels required before certification of a phone install, gotta put new wire in to pass).  Was strictly RF work they were making 1k or less a week back then.  Today if you can do triple plays 1500+ wk is easy if your in the right system.  The linemen I know from that era don't share the same sentiments about the money during the 80's as most on here.  They did talk about how life seemed easier to get by on with less.  Only hear about how good the money was back then on this board.  For whatever reason the people I talk to didn't believe the money was right.
