BSR Downstream levels

I was wondering what people are running their BSR's at. I am dealing
with internet and learning as I go. When setting up the IT side of the headend I installed a few Motorola BSR's because it's a small system.

when setting them up I was told to set the down stream level 573MHz 10db lower than the highest channel 601MHz ch 87

So my question is, Is this common to run it 10db down? If so is it because it's carrying digital data and need to be treated like a digital channel?
If everyone is thinking alike, someone isn't thinking.
