I started out inhouse for a small system in Pa. We did everything from installs to pole transfers and new build both UG and aeial. There were only 7 of us so any work done was done like you were the one that was going to have to work on it at 2AM in the rain. We were paid well for our efforts. Worked for them for 10 years, then Comcast took us over and we all just became numbers not people. After a year of that I started contracting. Was making some vary good money too until AT&T screwed everything up in the late 90's.
Found myself doing landscaping, was ok. Then after some serious searching and a divorce I found some overseas work. I now work in Japan on Navy bases and all my pay is tax free, pluss the bennies are great. I'm not saying what I did is for everyone, but there are still lots of opertunites out there if you look hard enough.
