Why don't you just do what the rest of the customers pissed off at service quality do?
Set an appointment for a tech to appear, as you have already done. Then when he's done and left, track mud all over your carpets and call the MSO insisting on a new carpet. After the 1st line CSR refuses or stalls, write up a complaint to whomever is in charge of this MSO of how your precious grandmothers carpet is now ruined and customer service refuses to help. Oh, yeah, and the tech made your child cry.
One years free service and a new carpet if you do it right :)
