Re: Pay more, end of story.

"For those of you who don't know all the costs involved, there are workers comp costs, liability & auto insurance costs, benefits costs, uniforms/tools/trucks/fuel besides JUST payroll costs. The more a prime has to pay for an "employee", the less employees you can afford to hire. This is why most hire some amount of contractors."

I disagree that the costs of having employees justifys low wages. Primes know how much it takes to have employees, but yet they still agree to the terms of these BS no-bid contracts MSO's offer. This is a classic example of what happens when you're in an industry that allows the customer (MSOs) to set the price of your product. Theres no way this can work and have a positive effect on industry wages. The customer is not always right. No matter what some may say, MSOs are customers in need of contractor's product (labor). Letting the customer have 100% dictation of your prices is a formula for failure, IMO.

I do agree that the times have changed, and companies have noticed this change. The change Im talking about is that the bar for what techs consider acceptable rates is so low, that its now cheaper for companies to use, or pretend they are using, contractors. Many people are happy making 1000/wk as contractors working long 40+ hrs and 5+ days a week. A 1000/wk contractor is the same as a 12/hr employee in regards to what it actually costs the company. So they jump at the chance to pay 1000/wk to a so called contractor. Its cheaper than having a 13/hr employee. How times have changed..........
