Welcome to the new age of plant maintainence-None!! The mso I am working for has a new idea!!Lets create the Perfect Tech. This tech will have the ability to do everything from installs to maintainence thereby eliminating the need for specialized positions. He will be given a smorgasboard of work each day as will his co-workers with the idea that he can handle whatever comes his/her way. This enables the manegment to use more bodys for more numbers thus eliminating the need for any preventitive plant maintainence. Don't these new type office people realize that a well maintained plant will result in lower numbers? Everytime I run into this thinking the end result is the same. No maintainence, more service calls and repeats and plant maintainence being run like a Fire Dept, completely reactive. Techs have no choice but to force balence everything as they have no time due to workload. Management saving money at the system's performance expence!!
An old dog can't suggest anything to these people because all they know and see are the numbers. Their inexperience with real plant operations blinds them to the fact that Plant PM reduces the numbers!
A properly run system has a variety of experience and tech levels all doing their individual duties but working together when needed as a team would do. How do you think a Football Team would run if everyone was used at all different positions every play of the game?
