LIke I said before, initially 100 workers signed the cards needed to hold an election(You only need 30%). Then came the intimidation from the company (in this case the company intimidated people). Charges have been filed against Mastec for that intimidation. HSP JM Bluegrass has been found guilty of exact same tactics, and I know for fact the IBEW is aware of this.
Like I said before, we can argue about this all day. The fact is this is a democratic process. It is a process that was made to mirror the democratic process of our country, and bring it into the work place. The president won by a close margin, and he still represents all of us. This was democracy at work.
I must say that Im suprised that as a manager seeing that many employees un-happy doesnt seem alarming to you. I mean I would think a manager would be concerned even if only 45% or even 30% of workers were unsatisfied, thats a pretty high percentage. You lead me to think all some companies want to do is keep enough people happy where a union cant get voted in. Interesting.......
HSPs are going to have a hard adjusting. They will have to soon adopt a business model that is above board. Whether the union wins in all locations or not, I have a feeling the IBEW is prepared to alert labor boards about some the many questionable business practices in this business. This is going to be a very intersting summer.
