Re: Gas War

I don't disagree with you about being screwed. Sure, the oil companies are taking advantage of the situation. I just don't agree that a boycott or anything similar is going to help, nor will any shortsighted "solutions" by the CONservatives running the country. Look at what Bush has proposed: lowering polution standards and giving oil companies even more corporate welfare in the form of tax breaks. The oil companies don't need help they already have record profits.

It is completely insane to continue ignoring the fact that petroleum supplies are running out. The longer we do this, the worse the problem will get. Meanwhile our children are dying to secure oil fields half a world away while the oil companies laugh their way to the bank.

In the early 1940s we developed the nuclear weapon. In the 60s we developed a space program to put men on the moon. We did those things because we thought we had to. I have no doubt we could find alternatives to oil in a similar fashion. We only have to WANT to do it. The oil companies and their cronies sure don't want us to. Since they control the government it won't happen until we DEMAND it. If 9/11 wasn't enough, and $3-4 gal. gas isn't doing it, I don't know how bad it has to get before that happens though.

It's easy to define what you're willing to fight for; but what are you willing to stand for without fighting? What are you willing to lay down your life for?
