Great points! A few days ago, Bush said he was going to look into the high price of oil and gas, he and his friends went down to their banks and looked at their accounts and said they didn't see any problem!
One of the fundamental problems is that there are already many alternatives to oil, however there is no way these will be developed and deployed in force until every drop of oil is gone. There is no motivation to so, as a matter of fact it is just the opposite. Oil companies are getting insane amounts per barrel for oil from pumping fields discovered, drilled and paid for decades ago. They don't want the demand to reduce.
One last point, the same people who own the oil, own the refineries, so when the price of oil goes up, their reasoning for raising the price of gas is that they had to pay THEMSELVES more for a barrel of oil...........gotta love it.
