Good point uboatcmdr - but many of them don't practice their English because they don't have to. Just look in your local grocery stores etc. There are sections of the stores where items are available in Spanish, including books... I deal with many accents in my line of work and have no problems understanding any of them....but the key is, they are speaking in English, no matter the accent. I'm sure there are many of us who have stood in a store and listened to the Spanish in the grocery line instead of a would-be citizen practicing the English language. Your wife is probably an exception to the rule rather than the majority....but at least she tried and that is the most important aspect of all. Hope at this stage, it's much easier for her. Have a good one.
