OSG either you are a liar, or you just dont understand. Im gonna presume you just dont understand.
#1 You cant say you followed the shop rules, and the only rule you broke was a union shop rule. Theres no such thing as a union shop rule. Shop rules/union shop rules are the same thing. Shop rules are the rules in the contract between the union and shop management. If a steward sees a violation of the contract he is supposed to adress it. The union would grieve to shop management about the infraction. Shop managment would be required to pay any penalty due to your infraction. The shop would then go after you to reimburse them per the agreement you signed when you were given access to the shop. The union cant and wouldnt be fair if they were "selective" when enforcing contract language. And remeber shop management enforces the contract the exact same way.
In a nut shel, there are no seperate union rules. Unions dont make the rules. They bargain them with management. Management has the responsibility of making sure you are aware of these rules. You had to sign an agreement, or else you would not have been there.
