I know our company is going through this battle currently. We try and pay better then anyone and the guys who work hard get very nice checks.
The government now would like us to pay overtime on the money we paid out. When we showed the government the W2's for the techs payroll and showed them that techs were making 50-75,000 a year and explained to them that we could not pay out that high if overtime was needed they came back with "pay them less then". I asked if they would be willing to come in and tell our techs this, Of course they declined.
Now the guys who are the top performers will take the loss and the guys who complained will reap the rewards..
Fair? Not to the guys who do this work with pride and make good money doing it. Basically we complain about companies not paying enough however the ones that do are now getting there hand slapped.
I seen in one of the post that "They dont know how to figure it out" and "it is easy to do" . I can say from my own stand point it is not. Try and figure out how to give your top performers what they should get. Let your guys who want to work extra days work them, and still manage a buget.
Dont get me wrong I am sure there are alot of subs out there that dont pay there techs enough or not at all and they should be dealt with. But those who try and take care of there man power are now getting slapped. We have our techs as employees so we can offer medical and dental for the techs families.
We are now looking at lowering all of our rates to acount for overtime laws that were meant for factory workers in the 20's making widgets.
Again, Companies who dont take care of the techs... Go after them. Companies that do... Tell me its easy and fair.
You can not have it both ways.
