My husband and crew arrived in Mandeville, LA around 3pm today to help repair the cable systems. Since we got the call to come help, we had been collecting donations from the numerous small towns in our area. After a couple days our garage was overflowing. Somehow we were able to get everything packed into the three trucks and camper that he took down. He was given a police escort directly to "the shelter that needs it most" as soon as he hit town. He was turned away. The American Red Cross wanted none of the donations, and did not want any clothes that weren't brand new. He was directed to the local fire department that agreed to take the boxes and boxes of canned goods. Mike said the chaplain that was in charge of the Red Cross shelter that turned him away was the type of guy that he would like to meet in a dark alley some day (cocky and wealthy looking). Anyway, they are now attempting to find a church that will agree to even take all the donations we brought all the way from Nebraska. Something is wrong with this picture!! Things must be done different in that part of the country, hell here you don't turn down anything someone offers to give you, it is considered rude. Anyway, I am done venting. Will let ya'll know how it goes for the crew when they start Monday. -Wife of Garrison
