Re: Dish installs question

If you have been given instructions to avoid a ground block it wasn’t from DirecTV or the SBCA.

This discussion about grounding and the pros and cons of different ideas could get really deep but there is only one bottom line: DirecTV and Dish Network both make it very clear that a multi-switch is not a ground block and would not constitute a sufficient ground. The NEC does not offer the multi-switch as an option so it is not acceptable. The SBCA makes it very clear that this is never acceptable. Will a multi-switch provide a sufficient ground? Maybe, but probably not, and either way YOU are still liable.

I know from personal experience that DirecTV will encourage the home owner to hold you financially liable if you use a multi-switch as a ground block. One of our installers did this and the dish was indirectly hit by lightning. The customer called DirecTV and the service tech photoed the grounding and DirecTV told them straight up that our company was liable for their connected equipment. I’m giving you $750 worth of experience for free!
