So far, word is that Comcast's ballyhooed VoIP system is having problems related to ingress and is nowhere near even "best effort" standards. How smart is that? Choose an upstream frequency in a noisy area of the band, one that is well known to have ingress issues in most systems largely due to total lack of upkeep and incompetently designed kludge upgrades, and then expect the installers to clean it up after a pay rate cut.
Sure we will...
Meanwhile, the fiber roll-out of SBC/Verizon is much spoken of and we know how capable those two are at stealing defeat from the jaws of victory. Like this is really a threat to cable. So too was Video over DSL supposed to be. And so too was DSL itself. ("There's copper to homes for phone everywhere. This will kick cable's butt and in a few years, cable modem will be history.")
Neither will matter to the installers or cable dogs. Cable will trot them out to instill fear of slippage and thus job loss. Telco will trot this out to signal that the endless pay cuts and union fights will soon subside. It won't cause a pay increase or increase of work you can do with your head held high.
As with Aliens Versus Predator, whoever wins, we lose.
