I agree with you bro, but we have problems in our own ranks.
we have people who are not experienced out here doing the work for cheaper prices, we have primes and subs hiring dip****s to do the work so that they can get the work at a cheaper price and still get there same cut. over the past few years ive seen floods of grocery store clerks, and illegals doing the work and some crap i might add just so somebody can get the numbers.
then in the end we are all looking bad because the systems getting built today for the most part are chit.
its all like a big joke anymore. and whats worse is most of the MSO.s know it and accept it just to get there numbers.
seems everybody is just turning there heads.
at least the power companies make there techs be certified for the work they are performing. im all for greenhorns working. im all for opprotunity for the younger generations, but damn, seems they dont even have to pay there dues anymore.hell they dont even have to know what they are doing.
it should be against the law for a tech to perform a job if they are not qualified, certified and tested yearly.
how much good is it going to do for all the experienced techs to
join together and refuse to work under these conditions when some joe blow will cut the throats and put more idiots on the line?
we all see it on every job in the country.
there should be a law just like for electricians, plummers, carpenters, etc that mandates stiff penalties for companies to allow unexperienced employees to perform work they are not certified to do. ive been in this business for a number of years, im proud of the work that i perform and proud of the years its taken me to get to the point of my career. it pisses me off and discusts me to go on a job and work next to a guy doing the same thing im doing, making the same money im making and find out hes been in the business for less than 2 years. i learn something new every day and as of yet do not feel i am a master at anything more than bator, lol but its getting really hard to take pride and try to do a job well done when it seems im the only one. and everybody still gets paid. why should i chase out that 2 db suckout, its still in spec? well because its my job, its what im here to do. but i should be getting paid for it.
Ill stop work today, ill be tested, ill pull out my resume, ill tell anybody who asks exactly what my experiences are.
if you want to get something done get to washington, talk to somebody who can govern this business in the same manner as the rest of the utilities. it all starts right here with all of us.
we all have to work, and we cant beat the system and pay our car payments, not without somebody who can make some rules.
ive seen so many guys that feel the same way as me. every job i go to i see discusted techs.
i wonder how many cable tv contractors there are in our country.
i bet the tax dollers from our business is a pretty good chunk of money. its so simple to fix the problems of our great industry and we all can come out ahead and the only people who will lose are the greedy primes and subs. the msos are in such a big hurry to get it done. the white shirt wearing, caddy driving primes and subs are in a hurry to get it done, all cuz they want more money. well i want to get it done and im the fool out here doing it.
i used to love this business. my daddy was a cable man and from 10 years old i thought man thats what i want to be.
haha
pay me what i deserve and ill keep doing it. otherwise ill keep looking for something better. working on 40 now and considering going back to school. looking back what a waste. im still 2 weeks from poverty. all for the mso. it was a privelege to stay gone from my kids and family for months at a time for nothing in the end.
all this experience, all the things ive learned and damn i shoulda
drove a taxi. ok ok enough ranting probably makes little sense
you just brought up a subject that ive talked about for years.
i still say government mandated tech certifications, as well as business laws that prevents every tom dick and harry from being a prime or a sub and outlaw sub subbing would turn it all around.
but what the hell do i know im just a ho. peace be with all you fine folks and i hope christmas is a good one this year for all of our kids.
