I've started doing cable modem installs at the first of the year. I made decent money some weeks...some weeks not so good. I quit last week. I finally sat down and decided that I didn't want being an installer to define my existance at the money I was making. I crunched some numbers and found that I was making $12 an hour on average for an average work week of 65 hours. No bennies and running my truck into the ground. I was told that I had the 2nd best QC rate in the shop. I didn't cut corners, couldn't make the 1200 a week I should have been.
All I can say is, let the big guys pay twice to get it right. At these rates, I can't afford (in good conscience) to make a living like this.
Im looking into Sat installs now....is it any better?
