Re: Companies...in general

I would have to disgree with you on some of your points.
The definitive word here is QUALIFIED sub. Just who is qualifiying them?
I would say that there are large percentage of subs that aren't worth
a dime. These are the same one's that are making a bad name for the rest
of you. Far to many subs these days work in house for a very short time
then go out and buy a truck and now are subs. There should be a min time
of working in the industry before you should be aloud to sub. These guys
don't know the difference between a down leg and through leg. All they care
about is a quick buck. No lie one sub came in (a half ass splicing supervisor
got him on the job) He only had 3 months experience in cable, his business
cards read if you have the money I have the time. (How nervy!) Needless to
say he didn't last long. To many outages and turfed a customers lawn.
So who is to weed them out? The prime! So now the prime is paying for
these subs doings. Now the in-house guys are stuck cleaning up the mess left
behind from these so call quified subs. The in-house guys don't want to
be working at their lousy hourly rate. And this is not fair to them.
To often I've seen a sub run out the door to run to the next job and they
do not care about their retainer. Because they can be making more moving on
rather then do their own clean up. Sorry you were paid to do the job right
and concider clean as working for free. I am not putting all subs down but
if I just discribed you then your the ones I'm talking about. A truly good
sub would take responibility and do their own cleanup.
An other reason for the cut throat prices in this industry is the sub that
wants to be a prime. Check it out these are the ones that are bidding so
low at prices that they would be making if they stayed a sub. So now for the
primes to stay in business they have to cut prices also.
I agree some of it is poor managemnet. Do to the fact the managers let some of
the subs run free. I've seen subs dictate what they will and will not do.
Sorry everyone has to take his or her share of bad runs.
There are weekly meetings and the subs are welcome to attend but don't.
But the time it takes for the meetings the subs look at it as thought they
are losing time where they can be out making money.
Your comment in your posting "Can you see where this is heading? The primes
are going to have to do more of the work in-house and provide their own manpower and
trucks and fuel and equipment, etc and really run their own job"
This struck a nerve with me.
Got news for you. Your not running the the job!!!!
You must be one of the subs that dictate what they will and will not do.
Bet you don't do your own cleanup! Then cry cause they are holding your
retainer.
I'm sure this industry would do better without you.
Why is it that some subs think they are better then the in-house guys?
Another news flash. Your not! Just because you own your own truck does
not impress me one little bit.
If it wasn't for the in-house guys cleaning up the mess that some subs
leave behind then the prime would not be able to work for that MSO ever
again. Then no one would have any work. I'm willing to bet that one time
or an other that all subs worked in house at one point in their lives.
And most of them went into subbing so they didn't have to do the s**t work
that the subs left behind. So you all know what I'm talking about.
I know for a fact that the prime has cut their percentages to pay out.
Not only for the sub's but they have also cut the percentage of pay for the in-house
guys. Just thought I'd let you know not only the subs are hurting in this industry
they way it has gone down hill.
