Re: Is there life after in-house?

Don’t listen to John, he’s bitter about the cable industry and is lashing out!

I make $100 for a single receiver install and $40 for each additional receiver. I also make $30 for a slave TV or phone jack. That’s not counting up-sells (dish covers, surge protectors, pole mounts, etc). On an average day I do 2 installs and earn $300. It’s the same amount of work as 2 new cable installs with a normal drop, so about 1 ½ hours to 2 hours per job. Takes me about 4-5 hours a day with driving. After expenses I net $275. If I do an 8 hour day I can do 3 to 4 installs and net $450+. I don’t know what John makes, but for me that’s a good living. No boss, no 10 pages of paperwork, no bad taps or other bs.

However, I have contracts with national providers. If you are an employee expect $20 or better an hour and if you sub you should break $200 on a short day $300+ for 8 hours. This is based on a decent population density, not a rural one with an hour driving between jobs.
