info on backcharges?

I'm a sub for a prime. I was recently backcharged $50 by the mso for a job (additional jack)that I was paid $12. Everything was working fine when I left. Nothing in the initial contract specified exactly how much they could chargeback. Is this legal or common, or they just assholes. Wait, I think I already know that last one. Thanks in adv. dogs
