If your SLM has it, your spectrum display can show you how "tight" your drop system is. Connect the meter to the drop at the tap, or to the ground block (to check the house cabling). Set your center freq. to either 20MHz (return band), 65MHz (VHFlo), or 98MHz (FM band)
Set span to 20MHz, set the reference level to -10 or 0 dBmV at 10dB/div. This will identify carriers picked up off-air into the cabling. Any carriers or noise visible above the noise floor of your meter can impact your desired carriers at those frequencies. To find the source, simply move the meter into the drop system (eg; the cables leaving the splitter), or disconnect one line at a time off a splitter until the
carrier(s) disappear. When it does, your fault is on that line.
> I'm just beginning the testing of drops/house wire for ingress. Does anyone have any info on proper proceedures for this testing? I have the needed meters etc... just some questions concerning where to hook up to the house drop(at the tap end or house end), if a splitter will interfere, etc...
