Re:Walkout, CAD, Design Rates

>>Question: Does that include the design drafting also?

It may well be $180. + per mile for design and drafting.
Rates/mile, should well compensate for density,
architecture, and specification requirements for each
project.
Rural design at $75/mile is still a fair rate (for design
and a redline draft only). If you do the design drafting,
that is a whole other set of specs. and job-tasks.

Too many "so-called" designers want to get rich quick!
In the big picture, I don't see where rates have changed
much for design in the last few years.
Most reputable design houses, know how to propose a project
rate that won't cut their own throat, and keep the clients
coming back.
It all boils down to Efficiency, Quality of signal, and
Accuracy. If you can maintain that...
*** You're worth every dollar you ask for! ***

-----> A shit load of MDU's in a area will kill your rate
per mile ratio. And a design for "Cowtown, USA" can't be bid
as high as "Center City".
---> A contractor is going to pay more than subbing from a
Sub, who want's a piece of the pie for no or little
effort.
---> The manufacturers have rates that are a bit better yet.

-> I worked for an "?? engineering ??" company in the South-
east years back, that charged the customer an ungodly
rate per mile..they paid their "??designers??" more per
mile than most were worth, and their drafting could never
pass QC on the first round...That Co. is all but out of
business!!!
*** You pretty much are already in the ball-park.***
(I guess I could have said that right from the start!) ;)

If you love the craft, you won't cheat!

That's my input, Thanks for askin....Steve

>mapping.........i really don't know, but about 3 years ago i was getting 75.00 per mile for mostly rural stuff.
